Twelve experienced and ready volunteers participated in this year's National Trails Day work session on the Quemazon Trail. It was the hottest day of the year so far, but the crew didn't wilt until mid-afternoon. We walked in two miles, then started working. We installed or repaired about 30 water bars/grade dips/covered water bars/check dams. The corridor was cleared of encroaching brush, something we thought we would never have to do when we worked on the trail in a totally incinerated landscape in the summer of 2000. We blocked some redundant routes, took out rotten tree roots, and armored the trail surface in a few spots.
Many thanks to Miles, Bob, Bill, Chuck, Steve, Troy, Shelly, Chris, Helen, Lynn, and June for 7 hours of hard work in the hot sun.
