Los Alamos National Laboratory and the Volunteer Task Force will hold a trail work party on the Duran Road/Deadmans Trail on Saturday May 8 from 9 AM to noon. The purpose of the session is to complete work that was started last fall to repair erosion damage on this historic segment of the local trail network.
The trail is part of a homestead-era road that climbs from the floor of Los Alamos Canyon to the top of South Mesa in the vicinity of the security checkpoint at LANL. In the fall, volunteers repaired erosion channels, removed fallen trees, and built erosion controls to protect the trail. This session will improve the tread and complete the erosion control measures along a half-mile segment.
Volunteers should meet at the site of the old DOE headquarters off Trinity Drive east of the Los Alamos Medical Center at 9 AM. Wear sturdy shoes and long pants. Bring plenty of water, food, and sunscreen. Tools will be provided. Work will conclude around noon.
